Introduction

Unit VIII has two sub-units:

The sub-unit I: deals with the functions of the nervous system. How do we perceive, move, think and remember? What happens when these functions are deranged? How can these be managed? It also deals with special sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose and tongue), which collect information of special significance to us for the perception of external environment. Human progress has been largely based on these senses.

The sub-unit II: is based in the central tenet of modern neuroscience that all human behaviour is a reflection of the brain function which when disorganized leads to disorders of the mental state (psychiatric disorders). What are the major disorders and how can these be managed?
